Course Details

The endoscope reprocessing journey within the GI Suite is one that is designed to deliver diagnostic and therapeutic devices that are safe for patient use. The road to processing, paved by standards, guidelines, and instructions for use, provides GPS guidance for the reprocessing staff, and aids in preventing detours that can invite opportunities for infection. This one-hour continuing nursing education activity provides an opportunity for endoscopy staff to ensure they are on course in their reprocessing practices.

This learner-paced education activity is intended primarily for RNs with a responsibility for or an interest in environmental and staff and patient safety in endoscopic reprocessing. The presentation will also be of interest to allied healthcare personnel and MDs involved in Endoscopy.

Upon completion of this presentation, participants will be able to:

1) List the nine mile-markers comprising the endoscopic reprocessing journey in the GI Suite.

2) Examine bumps and roadblocks encountered on the endoscope reprocessing journey that can impact patient safety in the GI Suite.

3) Discuss environmental and staff safety measures for personnel handling soiled endoscopes in the GI Suite and reprocessing area.

Recorded webinars must be watched in their entirety and cannot be fast-forwarded. In order to save video progress, participants should register/sign in before starting videos. Once the video is complete, participants will complete the evaluation and post-test. A passing score of 8/10 is required to earn a certificate. The post-test can be retaken until a passing grade is achieved. Reviewing the video before retaking the test is available, and fast-forwarding is enabled once the video has been completed. Once the test is passed, a certificate of completion will be available for download.

Upon successful completion of the entire online program and submission of required documentation, participants will be granted 1 contact hour. No partial credit will be granted.

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 08747, the District of Columbia Board of Nursing, Provider Number 50-574, the Florida Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 50-574 and the Georgia Board of Nursing, Provider Number 50-574.

ABCGN: According to the criteria of the American Board of Certification for Gastroenterology Nurses, 1 hour earned in this activity is considered GI Specific for the purpose of re-certification by contact hours through the ABCGN.

CBSPD: This program has been pre-approved by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution for 1.0 hour.

HSPA: This program has been approved by the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association for 1.0 hour.

1. Successful completion: Participants must complete the entire program, register, achieve a score of 80% on the post-test and submit required documentation.

2. Conflict of interest: Planners disclose no conflict of interest. The speakers disclose salary or honorarium from the commercial support entity; they have signed a statement agreeing to present material fairly and without bias.

3. Commercial company support: Fees are underwritten by education funding provided by Boston Scientific.

4. Non-commercial company support: None.

5. Alternative/Complementary therapy: None.

6. Implicit Bias: Educational Dimensions supports efforts to eliminate health care disparities and implicit bias in medical treatment along the lines of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, socioeconomic status and other characteristics in CNE activities addressing direct patient care.

Participants successfully completing the activity and submitting required documentation will be permitted to print a certificate of completion. Participants are advised to retain the certificate for eight years following activity completion. Certificates will be available in the participant dashboard.
