Have you ever wondered what was lurking in the cracks and crevices of all the little removable pieces and parts that are attached to an endoscope? In this one-hour faculty-directed session, the speaker will discuss the evidence supporting the proposal that endoscope accessories, reusable parts (e.g. valves) and cleaning implements can be a source of cross-contamination. She will also discuss the proposed strategies to mitigate cross-contamination risk as outlined in current standards and guidelines.

This learner paced education activity is intended primarily for nurses, managers and reprocessing technicians in the Endoscopy Suite with an interest in improving their knowledge of the guidelines for reprocessing endoscope accessories and applying it to daily practice.

Upon completion of this presentation, participants will be able to:

1) Explain the functions of flexible endoscope accessories used in endoscopic procedures in the GI Suite.

2) Discuss the FDA Guideline on preventing cross-contamination from water irrigation systems in the GI Suite.

3) Review guidelines and recommendations for tracking and storing reusable valves and endoscopes as a unique set in the GI Suite.

Recorded webinars must be watched in their entirety and cannot be fast-forwarded. In order to save video progress, participants should register/sign in before starting videos. Once the video is complete, participants will complete the evaluation and post-test. A passing score of 8/10 is required to earn a certificate. The post-test can be retaken until a passing grade is achieved. Reviewing the video before retaking the test is available, and fast-forwarding is enabled once the video has been completed. Once the test is passed, a certificate of completion will be available for download.

Upon successful completion of the entire online program, achieving a score of 80% on the post-test and submission of required documentation, participants will be granted 1 contact hour. No partial credit will be granted.
