This learner-paced education activity will present information on the role of high-resolution manometry in diagnostics of esophageal swallow disorders. The anatomy of the esophagus, indications for performing this procedure, and risks/benefits will be discussed. Participants will be able to explain Chicago Classification, describe the swallowing process, and incorporate critical elements into their pre-procedure patient assessment in order to improve the patient experience.

This faculty-directed education activity is intended primarily for RNs with a responsibility for or an interest in high resolution esophageal manometry. The presentation will also be of interest to allied healthcare personnel and MDs involved in those procedures.

Upon completion of this presentation, participants will be able to:
1) Discuss risks and benefits of high resolution esophageal manometry
2) Describe the swallowing process and esophageal anatomy
3) Discuss pre-procedure patient assessment and comfort measures which will improve the patient experience

Participants will complete the recorded webinar learning activity. They will view the presentation, then register to complete the evaluation and take the post-test on the website. They will submit the documentation as directed. A bibliographic reference is included for those wishing additional information.

Upon successful completion of the entire online program and submission of required documentation, participants will be granted 1 contact hour. No partial credit will be granted.
