Excessive bleeding from a femoral access stick is a problem for the patient, the caregiver and the hospital. For the patient, bleeding complications triples the mortality rate; for caregivers, caring for patients with such complications is stressful and time-consuming; for the hospital, treatment is nearly $20,000, which is non-reimbursable. Understanding and managing complications from femoral access procedures can result in happier patients, less stressed caregivers, and more money for the facility’s bottom line.

In this one-hour faculty-directed CNE activity, the speaker will provide information on excessive bleeding from femoral access sticks. Participants will be able to apply the information in their own practice areas.

This faculty directed education activity is intended primarily for RNs with a responsibility for or an interest in ensuring patient safety during femoral access procedures. The presentation will also be of interest to allied healthcare personnel and MDs involved in the procedures.

Upon completion of this presentation, participants will be able to:

1) Identify potential complications resulting from challenging patient attributes or improper femoral access technique

2) Describe the management of patients who present with vascular access complications

3) Define the economic impact of bleed complications

Participants will complete the recorded webinar learning activity. They will view the presentation, then register to complete the evaluation and take the post-test on the website. They will submit the documentation as directed. A bibliographic reference is included for those wishing additional information.

Upon successful completion of the entire online program and submission of required documentation, participants will be granted 1 contact hour. No partial credit will be granted.
